Health requires care and good eating habits. Similarly, oral health also depends on eating habits. Whatever you eat first passes through the mouth, so it is critical to make careful food choices for the benefit of your oral health. If you take care and choose your food wisely, your oral health can become easy to maintain.

Food and Oral Health

Important things to remember about the food are:

  • Cheese, meats, nuts and milk are good choices for oral health. These foods protect tooth enamel, by supplying calcium and phosphorus. Calcium and phosphorus are good for teeth.
  • Fruits with high water contents are good for oral health, as apple or pear.
  • Acidic foods should be minimized, or take them with other food. Acidic foods include citrus fruits, lemon or tomato.
  • High sugar foods are not good for teeth, like hard cake, sweet, candies, cookies or hard candies. Such foods speed up tooth decay.
  • Water, green tea and milk are good choices in liquid intake. Soft drinks, coffee, tea with sugar or alcoholic drinks are not teeth friendly drinks.

Brushing and flossing daily can reduce chances of oral problems. You should also visit your dentist on regular basis.
