Bite some cold or hot food or suck the air through your teeth. If you feel a sudden pain, it means your teeth are sensitive! However, the pain does not stay for a long time. Sensitive teeth can hinder your joy of drinking tea and having ice-cream. The cause of sensitive teeth is worn out enamel, which can occur from vigorous brushing, gum disease, tooth decay, teeth grinding or cracking. You can treat this painful condition with the help of home remedies.
1. Cinnamon Oil
Massage your teeth with cinnamon oil after drinking or eating too hot or cold edibles. It will diminish the sensitivity of teeth.
2. Clove Oil
Put a couple of clove oil on the cotton ball. Rub it on your teeth. You can also rub clove oil on your teeth directly, using the index finger. For effective results, repeat it thrice a week.
3. Salt
Use finely powdered salt to massage your gums. This remedy is helpful in reducing the probability of occurrence of sensitive teeth.
4. Mustard Oil
Take one Tbsp. Mustard oil in a bowl. Mix one tsp. of rock salt in it. Massage your teeth, with the help of the index finger. Leave it for 5-7 minutes. Finally, rinse your mouth with normal water.
5. Salted Water
Add two tsp. salt in one glass of lukewarm water. Stir well. Gargle with this water twice a day: in the morning and before going to bed at night.
6. Baking Soda
Baking soda acts as a good desensitizer. Take ¼ glass of water. Add ¼ tsp. of baking soda to it. Use this solution to rinse your mouth.
7. Sugarless Chewing Gum
Sugarless chewing gum helps in saliva production and re-hardens softened teeth, thereby reducing sensitiveness of teeth.

Brush your teeth with desensitizing the toothpaste. This toothpaste desensitizes the nerves and provides respite from tingling pain, when you consume cold and hot food items.
9. Fluoride Mouthwash
Whenever you take acidic or sugary foods, brush your teeth with toothpaste. After an hour, rinse your mouth with fluoride mouthwash. This home remedy will help in controlling the sensitive teeth.
10. Aloe Vera
Rinse your mouth with aloe vera gel. You can also massage your teeth with aloe vera gel. This home remedy helps in reducing the sensitiveness of teeth.
Useful Tips
- Regularly floss your sensitive teeth. It will keep you away from discomfort and pain.
- Brush your teeth twice a day. Use warm water while brushing.
- After eating snacks or meal, rinse your mouth with plain water.
- Use soft bristles’ toothbrush.
- Change your toothbrush after a month or two.
- Don’t use toothpaste that comprises of abrasive ingredients.
- Give up chewing tobacco and eating hard candies.
- Avoid excessive intake of acidic foods like tomatoes, tea, lemons, and oranges.
- Do not eat too cold or hot food.
