Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) works like a sliding hinge, connecting the jawbone to the skull. TMJ disorders can cause pain in the jaw joint and in the muscles that control jaw movement. People who have jaw pain may face grinding of teeth, however majority of people routinely clench their teeth and never develop TMJ disorders.
