How does teeth whitening work?
Teeth whitening treatments contain hydrogen peroxide (a bleaching agent) which when applied to the surface of the tooth, penetrates the porous enamel, breaking down staining.
Before going ahead with teeth whitening, patients attend to a short consultation. This ensures that your teeth and gums are healthy – or in the case of take-home treatments – to get your custom trays made.
Any dental issues such as gum disease or cavities will need to be treated before any application of a whitening gel as this may cause teeth sensitivity.

What’s the procedure for in-chair teeth whitening?
The gel is washed off and the level of whiteness checked. The gel is then re-applied, and the process is repeated twice more, making a total treatment time of 45 minutes.
The gel is washed off for the final time and a desensitising fluoride gel is applied to your teeth. Finally, we’ll compare your before and after tooth shade so you can see what a difference cosmetic whitening has made.
In less than an hour, you’ll be able to leave our Bondi clinic with a gleaming white smile.
What about take-home teeth whitening? How does that work?
Depending on whether you have chosen Pola Day or Pola Night, you will wear your trays for a few minutes during the day or overnight while you sleep. While teeth whitening takes longer, it enables whitening in the convenience of the home, at a time that suits you. Depending on how your teeth respond to teeth whitening, you should see a noticeable difference within 10-14 days of treatment.
